Military Service from 1915 to 28 March 1919 |
France Worcs Regiment and then Machine Gun Corps (57th Company)7,8,9,10 Notes: (An analysis of attestation dates for soldiers with close regimental number suggests that he attested in July-September 1915 — i.e. not in the first wave of eager volunteers but in the wake of the National Registration Act and before the Derby Scheme and later conscription.) In 1917, he was awarded the D.C.M. for gallantry in action. The citation read: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He kept his gun in action under fire in spite of heavy casualties. He stood by his gun during an intense bombardment during a threatened counter-attack, and by his coolness and courage greatly assisted in repelling the attack.” I have not been able to find a service record or pension application for him. |
